Happy NEW YEAR, friends! A new year and a new decade. I’m pretty excited for this one 🙂 Last week, I shared my thoughts on how I reflected on 2019. You can read that here, if you’re interested! I’m so glad I went through that process before creating my goals for 2020. Like I mentioned in my reflection post, I don’t typically set “new year resolutions.” I’ve always felt a little silly about them, like they were a trap for a few months of progress that would quickly go to waste.
However, now that I have a fun spot to share goals with y’all and hold myself accountable, I’m really interested in the idea of putting together some realistic goals for the next year! I also realized just how much changed in my life over the past 12 months and how much more can change in the next 12. So! Today I am sharing my 20 things/goals/thoughts/habits with you all, some big, some little, so that you can see what I’ll be up to in the next year! Twenty seems a little bit excessive, but many of these are super achievable!
Let’s make this a fun process! Grab a big cup of coffee and your favorite notebook. When you’re done, share them with someone (I’ll listen!). Happy planning, loves! Hope my list inspires you a little bit for your own!
one. Go to bed earlier / Establish evening routine
This is number one on my list because it directly affects several other goals I’m setting! My family has a habit of going to bed after midnight (sometimes later) most nights. My schedule tends to allow this because I don’t really need to get up before 7 or 8, but I want to start doing more with my mornings!
two. Workout in the morning
Over the past year, I had a somewhat consistent routine of working out in the afternoon after work. My school schedule has made this a bit more volatile, so I think working out in the morning would keep me on track more! I also LOVE the feeling of having your exercise done before everything else so you can just be happy you did it, rather than dreading it all day.
three. Spend time with the Lord more intentionally
This is another thing that has sadly taken a back seat due to my schedule. While my prayer life has stayed consistent, my reading time has definitely minimized. I have always read my bible before bed, but I think I might switch it up and try the morning/afternoon!
four. Try two new meals a week
I have begun to love cooking and baking over the last year or so! And I think it’s so fun to try new recipes that can become staples. I think two new recipes a week could definitely create a new list of favorites!
five. Clarify my design style
This might sound silly, because I’m not even totally sure what I mean by it. I love homes and decor and design so much that I tend to just love SO many styles. I appreciate different things about each look, whether it be farmhouse, boho, industrial, traditional, or so on. I’m honestly happy that I find something great in each of these, because I am an interior architecture student and know I’ll have to design for different styles regularly. My issue with this, however, is that it takes a toll on my own spaces! Because I love so many styles, I have an issue of just buying different pieces and decor items from each and mixing them. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I really like my spaces to be cohesive, and this tends to make that difficult. This year, I want to learn more about my self, style, and loves so that as I continue putting together my own spaces, they can be more cohesive and represent my favorite things. If you read this whole paragraph and still have interest, I love ya.
six. Walk for 30 minutes each day
This would feel so good, especially when you haven’t done anything else active in the day!
seven. Create a reading list & get to it
I love to read A LOT, but it definitely gets pushed to the bottom of my list when I’m in classes or just busy with life. If I can get to bed earlier, I would love to read for 30 minutes or so before going to sleep!
eight. Eat more intentional breakfasts
I got a blender for Christmas, and I’m so excited!! I make smoothies in our blender at home but would love to do it at my apartment, especially in the mornings!
nine. Start a new habit every month
My brother heard about this on a podcast, and it sounds so fun! I have a few ideas of what I want to start, like flossing, making my bed, and putting my clothes away right after I change or get out 20 tops to try on. I’m sure I’ll think of more over the next few months!
ten. Begin tithing
This is really important for me in my walk with Christ, and I feel ready to start tithing from my own earnings!
eleven. Meal plan every Sunday
Meal planning just makes me feel so. good. I am planner by nature and planning out food just gives me the happiest vibes.
twelve. Declutter/keep my space simpler
I feel best when my space is clean! I would also like to be better about not buying too many things that will just pile up.
thirteen. Cook more at my apartment
I’m so excited to cook more at my apartment! My schedule last semester made it a little bit difficult, so I think this will be a fun change.
fourteen. Spend more intentional time with friends
I love my girlies and want to carve out more time for us to be together!!
fifteen. Make lunches in advance
Kinda like 11b to my meal planning goal, I would love to have healthy lunches planned at the beginning of the week and have them made as early as possible. I don’t like having to make them in the morning before class or right before I go to bed.
sixteen. Make use of the things I love
We have this funny habit in my family where we buy or are gifted something we LOVE, but because we love it so much, we won’t use it. Do any of you guys do this? For me, it’s stuff like candles, notebooks, or just pretty things in general. I also used to wait for a “perfect day” to wear a new clothing piece, but I’ve gotten better about this now that I share clothes with all of you! My brother saves new shoes and his favorite shirts. My mom saves socks and wrapping paper. My dad saves his limited-edition Snap-on screw drivers that are THIRTY years old. Why do we do this?! In 2020, I want to be better about just using my favorite things and enjoying them to their fullest, rather than just watching them sit on my desk!
seventeen. Be better about my skincare routine
My skincare routine has been consistent since May of 2019, and it has really helped my skin. I’m going to put together a post on this soon! I know that being consistent with the routine makes a huge difference. This one is kind of a smaller goal, since I never skip my routine in the mornings, but often allow myself to skip at night because I know I need to get to sleep! Now can you see why I should be getting to bed earlier?
eighteen. Stretch routinely
I tend to skip stretching because I don’t want to add the extra few minutes, but I know this can make such a positive change for everyday.
nineteen. Prioritize blogging
While I seriously love blogging and wish I could devote tons and tons of time to it, my schedule just doesn’t allow it to be a priority everyday. My major has a serious amount of project work that takes tons of time, so any moment in the week that I’m not working on classwork, I try to spend time with my family and friends. I’m not totally sure just yet how I’ll try to make this a better routine, but I’d love to have my blog posts done more in advance so I can have a better schedule!
twenty. Continue growing my blog
I started my blog in February of 2019 because I wanted to share my passions and have something worthwhile to devote my time to. This has only grown and developed within me, and I want to keep growing it so that I can reach more of you and just delve deeper!!
20 things for 2020! I’m pretty hopeful about this new year and having my vault of goals here to keep myself on track and hopefully inspire some of you in any small way. Thanks for reading, and happy 2020!!!
