A few months ago, my family and I traveled to Lexington, KY. We spent two days at the lovely Keeneland race track, and I fell in love! I want to tell you all about it so that you can visit and enjoy it as much as we did!
Every April and October, the best ponies, jockeys, and owners gather at Keeneland. The scenery is beautiful, and the atmosphere is like nowhere else I’ve ever visited. And of course, watching the horses race each other is SO FUN! You have to walk down to the paddock between at least a few of the races. My family and I loved watching the ponies prepare for the big moment. The best part is seeing their huge personalities and picking a favorite to win! It’s the coolest thing.
What to Eat:
My mom and I tried the Burgoo, Keeneland’s finest. It was yummy, but I think I’d stick to the hotdogs. The bread pudding is an absolute must!!
What to Wear:
Honestly, this might be the best part of Keeneland! If you love to dress up in beautiful pastels or fall fashion, this is the perfect place to do it. We visited in October, and it was actually super chilly! I wore a skirt both days but made sure to have long sleeves on. For the guys, it’s the perfect place for seersucker.
Where to Sit:
Keeneland is actually not very expensive to visit; you can go in as general admission for just $5! To guarantee yourself a seat (and roof) I’d suggest buying a grandstand ticket, which ranges between $10-20. My mom and I sat in the grandstand the first day and had such a great time! You can still go into the general admission area which runs up along the track and has an awesome view. If you know anyone who can find you a ticket for the clubhouse (it’s members only), this is the best way to do Keeneland! You have special access to food, views, and seats. We loved every minute!
Thanks so much for reading!! Xo!
